Thanksgiving

I drove to my parents for Thanksgiving.  I got off early on Wednesday, tried to take a nap and was on the road by 8 pm with el chico.  We drove, hit minimal traffic, he slept some, I slept some and I arrived at my parents’ house (after dropping him off) at the reasonable hour of 5:45 AM.  I slept for about 4 hours before waking up for our meal.

(Enjoy these photos, my aunt likes to do photo shoots.  We also have a running joke about pictures of us by ourselves being our “obituary” photos.  I have one now too, awesome).

Typical of my mom and sister, usually my dad joins in on the shenanigans.

My family came over and I ate all my faves:  green bean casserole, stuffing, sweet potato casserole, mashed potatoes, and turkey.  But emphasis on the casseroles, yum!

mendani

I’m calling this the, “my sister just told me she is getting married in March face.”

Dessert was good, my dad’s friend made his pineapple upside down cake.  Heaven, trust me.  I wish I had eaten more pumpkin pie that my mom made.  It was good.  And the other two pies, only so-so.  A waste of my plate if you ask me.

weirdos

Apparently we make these faces a lot.  Typical, I suppose.

My mom, sister, aunt, cousin, and I went out Black “Friday” shopping on Thursday night.  Sears was a bust, Target was a winner and a must, Old Navy was just plain irritating.

For some reason this photo could have been much better, we are sitting on a bench made for 1.5 people.

We made it home by 2:45 AM (another late night in a row!)  Hopped into bed and were up again to be out there by 8 AM to hit up the mall.

This is the only photo where most of us look normal.  I’m not sure what my mom and sister are doing.  Ricky and my dad look quite nice.

I scored some deals at Macy’s and JC Penney.  Finally some clothes that fit.  I met up with my friends that afternoon and took a long nap in the evening.

dillon

This is Dillon, my aunt and uncle’s dog.  He’s so cute.

Saturday afternoon we did some dress shopping with my sister.  Found some winners, some losers, and watched a girl “Say Yes to the Dress.”

What am I not looking at?

On Saturday night we went to the Kings game. It was a lot of fun, and I forgot how much I enjoy basketball, but it was also embarrassing at how few people were there.

Sunday we drove back and made it home by 9, which was good timing.  Although, I always need an extra day off after vacation.  I’m finally unpacked, and thankful I could see my family.  I hope you had a great Thanksgiving!

apparently…

I am the WORST blogger in the world.

Here is my weekend update, but I don’t have photos, which basically means that I suck.  My apologies to you.  I don’t have pictures because I didn’t take any.  Okay, that might be a lie because I probably have a couple.  Just not relating to what I should have photos of.

Friday:

I got off work early, because I was going somewhere (more to come where the pictures should be but aren’t).

I got my hurr did:

Taylor Swift ain’t got nothin’ on me.

Prior to that, I got this in a text message:

My little sister got engaged!  I’m so excited for her and Marc-y poo.  More details to come as things come together.

So, I got my hair cut because I was bored and I figured that since I was going to Las Vegas for the weekend I’d spice it up.  This is where I fail as a blogger. I  took one photo, not of myself, that is not at all exciting.

We left SD around 7 and got to Vegas at midnight.  Thankfully I took about a 3 hour nap in the car, so I was set.  You know, Vegas doesn’t sleep so we went out after checking into our hotel.  Note:  those drinks in the plastic cups that can be as big as a house are as full of sugar as you would imagine, and contain very little alcohol.  They are a rip off, except for from some place that I forget the name of (if I remember I’ll hook you up) where they are 75% alcohol.  Anyway, I’m not a gambler, some gambling was done and we crawled into bed around 5 AM (say what normally I get up at 6 every day).

Saturday, we all tried to sleep in but our new neighbors were so annoying and loud, breakfast was eaten (at noon) and we spent our whole day in our casino that I saw no sunlight on Saturday.  If you’ve never experienced this, it really messes you up.  Dick’s Last Resort for dinner, which is always fun.  I received a lovely hat that read:  “My legs are just like 7-11, they’re always open.”  Yes walking from one casino to the next with that received some stares, but all in good fun.  Another night out of gambling and consuming alcohol (bring your own, its cheaper and much more enjoyable).

Sunday, I woke up and wasn’t hung-over, which never happens.  Score one for me.   I also  ate the MOST amazing sandwich at Hard Rock:  pulled pork with chipotle bbq sauce, fried onion strings, jalapenos, and cheddar cheese.  AMAZING.  Then we spent some time in the shark reef and headed home.

Got home around 1130, went straight to sleep, and slept until 10 this morning, something I never do.  Needless to say, I am 25 going on 85.  I had an awesome weekend and wish I had the photos to prove it.

Happy Short Week and Be Thankful!

Weekend Update

Happy Veteran’s Day!

Thank a veteran today, or yesterday since this will probably post on Monday morning.

Here are the happenings of my weekend in photo (oh and my home tour, kind of).

0270240258miles

1.  I gave myself a mani and a pedi.  I love the gold on my nails, my toes are questionable (as are my feet in general, they are ugly) so they might be repainted.
2.  Sunday morning breakfast, egg, bacon and cheese sandwich and coffee.
3.  Reading “the Bible” as Elle Woods would say.
4.  Oh yeah, and I ran 8 miles Saturday, but the treadmill only allows you to do 45 mins plus a 5 min cool down, so this was my first 50 minutes.

I also did some laundry and some grocery shopping, but I’m going out on a limb and assume you know what that looks like.

Along with the rest of the online world, I had a minor freak out when Yahoo! Fantasy Football didn’t work.  It doesn’t matter though, because I’ve lost, so I’m not going to look at it anymore.

Now onto my house tour:

Living room, dining room, and entry.  Yes, it is rather bare, and my sister hates that couch, but it works and is very functional.

Functional and bare.  As I’ve gotten older I like less and less clutter around.

My bedroom and walk-in closet, because what else really matters?  As Carrie Bradshaw once said, “I like my money where I can see it, hanging in my closet.”
My bedding will eventually be grey, but a girl’s gotta save to find a super soft, comfy comforter.

It could use some help, but the bones are there, and that’s really all that matters at this point.

Hope you’ve had a great weekend and hopefully you’re lucky enough to have Monday off for Veteran’s Day!

Things I’ve Learned My First Week…

in my new place.

1.  When you don’t have cable or TV you learn to revel in the silence; also you learn that having someone over might make you seem kind of lame.  However, you also get bored very easily, and background noise, if needed, must be Pandora or iTunes, or something else.  Or pure silence.  All of which I’ve enjoyed.

2.  Coming home and cooking is much more enjoyable when its just for you.  Even if I thought I should have thawed out some chicken and had potatoes, I don’t have to if I really just want an egg and some cereal.  Nobody will whine that they don’t want it.

3.  Going back to number 1, I can listen to and watch what I want, when I want, and nobody will say a thing.  Disney, sure.  Country, any time.  Classical, if it strikes my mood.  Flipping between song after song, of course.  Why?  Because I can.

4.  My apartment doesn’t have to smell like dirty feet and a locker room.  It can smell like coffee, popcorn, cupcakes, and pumpkin spice.  And if it does smell like a locker room, its confined to my dirty laundry and that’s how it should be.

5.  I can wake up, drink my coffee, eat my breakfast, and I can go back to sleep.

6.  My bed is made.  EVERY SINGLE DAY.  Unless I don’t want it to be, and then its not.

P.S.: I ran 8.2 miles today.  Celebratory fro yo tonight (it’s free because my parents and I had so much for yo while they were here).

P.S.S.:  I love “Wanted” by Hunter Hayes.  It’s maybe the most beautiful song I’ve heard in a long time.

P.S.S.S: Home Tour photos tomorrow, perhaps?

Things That Make Me Smile

memomndad

Spending some quality time with my parents last weekend.  They helped me move and get my place super girlified (I’m sure my dad LOVED that).  They are the best.  My dad is not the best at taking iPhone photos of the 3 of us though.

menmombeach

Mom and I trying to act natural, but apparently I’m trying to show off my crazy tan lines?  I’m not sure if those are leftover from summer or all my running (I haven’t laid out or worn a swimsuit in quite some time).

This CD.  It might be one of my favorite CDs as a whole of all time.  I love it, and every single time a song from it comes on the radio or my iPod I smile, broadly.

Looking forward to my trip this month.  I can’t wait.  I’ve been to Vegas a few times, but I’ve never gone with friends, so this should be tons of fun.

Digging this song and video:

These stations on Pandora:

1.  Maroon 5
2.  Alex Clare
3.  Flight of the Conchords

And this boy who has yet to make his debut on the blog.

Maybe after Vegas?

It’s his birthday, Happy Birthday!

P.S.: Home Tour coming soon!
