Music For Your Ears and Soul

“Bohemian Rhapsody” – Queen

This is probably my favorite song of all time.  I love it.  I love hearing it on the radio and singing my heart out to it in the car.  Queen is one of my top 5 favorite bands/artists, so of course they would be on this list.

“Friends in Low Places” – Garth Brooks

This song always brings me back to my childhood.  I know every.single.word.  I grew up listening to Garth and this song always brings me back.  As do some of his others, but this one particularly.  It reminds me of my family trip to Disneyland when I was little as well as Las Vegas when I was a teenager.

“Claire de Lune” – Debussy

This was my grandfather’s favorite song.  It is so beautiful and peaceful.  When I really need to relax or I can’t sleep, I put this song on and instantly calm down and drift off.  Grandpa was a smart man.

“How Great Thou Art” – Carrie Underwood

This was my grandmother’s favorite song.  We played it at her memorial when I was 12, and it soon became the song played at all my grandparents’ memorials.  It is a beautiful song, and Carrie Underwood does an amazing rendition of it.  It is probably one of my favorite hymns.

“Everybody’s Free (To Wear Sunscreen)” – Baz Luhrmann

This is kind of a random addition, but the words of this ring true so much.  Just listen to it and soak it all in.  Look at the lyrics and think about it.  It is all so true.  We should all take some of this advice.  It isn’t written by him, keep that in mind, but we can thank him for making it super popular.

These are definitely not all the songs that are my favorite or that speak to me, but they would definitely be my top 5.

Something Someone Once Told Me

I’m behind, but I’m trying to catch up.

This is maybe the only compliment that I enjoy receiving, or that I accept.  “You have beautiful eyes.”  My eyes are generally green, but if I’m happy they tend to be a little more of a blueish tone; if I’m sad or upset they turn to grey color; and sometimes they are brown/hazelish.  The inside ring is a little bit hazel, the majority of the middle is a green color, and the outside is blue.  Its fascinating to see people notice the difference.  Relating to that, someone went on a vacation once, and came back with a gift for me.  They were beautiful turquoise glass earrings.  This person proceeded to give them to me and said, “I know you like your earrings and these look like they are the color of your eyes.”  I will never forget that compliment for the rest of my life.

Something I Read

Real adults…  Oops, I’m definitely not one.

By the way, I love

1.  Updating software:  Ha ha, nope.  I only do it if I feel like it, but I’m also not going to pay for updates either.  I’m a rebel like that.

2.  Oxford commas: I  don’t know what these are.  I know most grammatical things but I’ve never heard of these?  I’m also too lazy to look it up, so if you know, tell me, if not, well then we’re both not real adults.

3.  Shower, Every Day:  Ok, I do this, but I don’t always wash my hair.  And on Saturdays and Sundays I wait as long as possible to shower.  Today I have workout gunk and sunscreen piled up on me.  Not taking a shower… yet.

4.  Vacations:  Ha, no I definitely do that.  Those cost money.  I am going to my parents and my boyfriend’s parents as my summer vacation.  Lucky lady over here!

5.  Planning:  I’m pretty good at this, actually.  Not because I’m an adult but because I am a planner.

Are you a real adult??

Top Three Worst Traits

1.  I’m super shy and awkward.  I guess that could technically be two, but I’m going to lump them together.  I’m definitely shy, but I think the awkward part is something I do to myself.  Maybe from the shyness?  I might be the most shy person you’ve ever met.  Since I’m like this I appear rude and stuck up. I’m not!

2.  I don’t speak my mind enough.  I keep things to myself.  I overthink and overanalyze everything.  Sometimes it would probably just be easier if I would just suck it up.  Tell people what I’m thinking, within reason, and move on.

3.  I’m terrible at making decisions.  I’d rather someone else decide for me.  This relates to #2, but I can’t tell you even how complicated it is for me to decide if I should wash my hair today or not.

Hope you all enjoy your 3 day holiday weekend, if you get one!

Life, You Teacher, You.

Things I Didn’t Learn in School:

1.  No matter how responsible you think you are, being an adult is difficult.  Budgeting your money, remembering to pay your bills, getting to sleep and to work on time, and learning how to build relationships are really tough tasks.

2.  Your family and closest friends are generally 99% right about things pertaining to you.  They know you best.

3.  If a man doesn’t have a good relationship with his mom, then he probably won’t have a good one with you.

4.  “The cure for anything is salt water-sweat, tears, or the sea.” – Isak Dinesen

5.  Ice cream, ALWAYS makes it better.  As does a stupid movie.
